Project Management

project management team at a construction siteConstruction projects, like any large-scale projects, need competent managers. In this day and age of information colliding with the physical world, it is very important that today’s project managers are multi-talented in hard skills, soft skills, and data skills.

In health care, construction projects can be incredibly complex. Infection Protection and Control, phased work, medical infrastructure, and the need to keep facilities operating while construction work goes in are all issues that can, and do, arise.

GBI-FM follows industry standards for Project Management, including best practices and guidelines from the Ontario Association of Architects, Professional Engineers of Ontario, and the Canadian Construction Documents Committee.

Every project under GBI-FM receives specific care and attention. However, certain processes are followed regardless of the scale or scope of a project, including:

  • Agile approach to Project Management
  • Full costing of projects, including contingency allotments
  • Client status updates at 30%, 60% and 90% milestones to ensure control and compliance
  • Project schedule and Work Plan
  • Quality Control Plan
  • Health & Safety Plan
  • Measurement of project success

Agile Project Management

Agile has traditionally been used for IT projects. However, at GBI, we have successfully implemented this methodology in construction project management. Using best practices from Agile, we have been able to cut down phases to smaller “sprints” that allow us to increase flexibility within the project and perform many tasks in parallel. By applying our customized agile methods, we are able to save 30% on project costs and timing! At GBI, our approach to solutions is always evolving and we are constantly experimenting to improve our approach.
